Apple Crunch Bars recipe – 92 calories
Ingredients:
2 cups peeled chopped granny smith apples
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
2 egg whites
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup margarine, softened
1 cup brown sugar
8 ounces plain low-fat yogurt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
Preparation:
1. Combine the flour, margarine and brown sugar in a bowl, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer.
2. Reserve 2 cups of the flour mixture, and set aside.
3. Add the baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt to remaining flour mixture; beat well.
4. Add the egg whites, yogurt and vanilla extract; beat well.
5. Stir in the apples.
6. Press the reserved 2 cups flour mixture to the bottom of a 9 x 13 x 2-inch baking pan coated with cooking spray.
7. Sprinkle walnuts over the flour mixture.
8. Spread the apple mixture over the prepared crust.
9. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 40 minutes (or until browned).
10. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack.
